Vocational Rehabilitation |
The Issue:
- Health professionals working for an Insurance company specialising in vocational rehabilitation highlighted that emotional factors and mental health problems frequently acted as barriers to recovery but felt uncertain how to address these effectively.
- Rehabilitation staff including occupational therapists, physiotherapists and case managers also found that limited time with individual clients required a rapid solution that would be effective within fairly short time periods.
- Whilst the team had access to refer for standard Cognitive-behavioural therapy services these were expensive, time consuming and not appropriate for all cases.
Our Solution:
A three-day 10 Minute CBT training programme designed for the rehab team to implement key strategies for understanding and promoting change in short time frames.
- Health professionals were able to deal with issues in a swifter way, facilitate rehabilitation and reduce absenteeism.
- The team felt more confident in their ability to motivate and overcome obstacles to rehabilitation and developed increased job satisfaction as a result
- The Thought-Behaviour model applied to physical and mental health issues
- Enhancing motivation and goal setting
- Encouraging positive behaviour change
- Effective strategies for building self esteem and managing anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients with physical illness
- Empowering the client to take responsibility for their own health and develop increased independence and enjoyment
- Managing unpleasant and distressing symptoms such as pain, communication difficulties and restricted movement
- Managing expectations and clients who appear "difficult"
The Outcome:
More effective strategies for rehab reduced treatment time and improved return to work figures.
